29 Days and Counting

I'm Dew-Free for 29 days now. Weird to think that I'm talking about like an alcoholic talks about spirits, but that's what Mt. Dew was for me, an addicition. And you can tell. It's still stuck around my waist.

I'm still hovering around the 320 lbs mark, even though I'm fasting. I've seen a significant reduction in my appetite from the fasting, and I'm hoping that will carry on when I'm done and I'll be able to lean on that for some weight loss.

I've gotten back on the habit of exercising, getting up early and hitting the treadmill before I get to work. When I'm done with that I jump rope for a minute. (Don't laugh, I suck at it and I keep tripping myself up)

When I get better with the jumprope and it doesn't hurt quite so bad, I'll increase it by 15 second imcrements. I should set an end goal so I can feel better when I get to it. I think I'm shooting for 2 2-minute sprints with the rope with a 30 second break in between.

So that's where I am now. Some days I feel like "Eye of the Tiger", and some days I feel like Grandpa Simpson. I'm so out of shape...

Tim:

Greetings. Good for you for doing what you can and not apologizing for it (i.e. putting it up on this website). Jumping rope is a pain in the big A--. However, it is also effective. There will come a day, and one day it will be come at you rapidly and all at once where you can say you used to do 1.5 minutes and now you do 10 minutes, with only minor breaks for restarting the rope.

I bought a 100lb, rag-stuffed, heavy bag a few months ago. I've beat myself up more than I beat up the bag. And the first week I could only do 5 minutes straight at full punch speed and strength. Then I fractured my hand from it.

Brilliant. Well that healed and I bought softer gloves and then focused on pulling my punches back so I am not wailing the thing at max impact velocity. I am able to do it for 8 minutes staight now and I have only badly sprained my upper oblique muscles doing it.

That made it hard to cotinue but a few days of rest and alternative excercises that were lower impact made all the difference. Now I can get back to my beatings of the beloved bag.

I can do 8 minutes now while not being totally winded afterwards and without cramping myself up until I damn near double over.

One small step for you, one giant leap for your body's conditioning. The point is... the body responds to and eventually accomodates thoughtfully executed abuses against it.

Your the man.
