The coming switch

Heather's pretty much promised to get me an iPod for this Christmas, and I've been playing with OS X skins for Windows for a while now, and now that I've discovered FlyakiteSP2, which basically turns your XP machine into a very remarkable Mac clone...I think this year is the year. I need to have a Mac machine. I want a Mac. I will have one...

Yeah, just get a mac. You'll be glad you did.

Mike:

I was a hardcore PC guy for almost a decade before making the switch a year ago. I have no regrets, though the switch did have a few caveats.

I still keep a modest PC for playing games and for tinkering with cloning disks and Linux-type stuff. Those are things that are a Royal Pain on the Mac.

Luckily, there are some timely (and well-done) Mac ports, such as UT 2004. However, I don't think we'll be seeing Half-Life 2 or Far Cry coming to the Mac.

So, I'll say that I use my Mac 98% of the time. Video editing has never been smoother and having a virus-free, virtually crash-free OS is a thing of beauty. I switched because I was tired of having to reload Windows every 12-18 months because it would eventually self-destruct. I got tired of having to spend so much time tinkering and tweaking Windows rather than doing the things I enjoyed.

My stress level has certainly dropped since ditching Windows, that's for sure.

Oh... and once you start using Expose, you'll never want to go back to Windows. Ever. ;)

P.S. - Do yourself a favor and check the "Special Deals" section on store.apple.com. You can get a refurb'd machine at a hefty discount.
