Shooting in the warehouse - Last Night's Dream

I dreamt last night that one of my co-workers was trying to kill me. He had snapped and gotten a gun, and was in a warehouse making plans to kill me. In the process of coming after me he had killed many other people and he was pinned down in the warehouse by the police.

I ran to the warehouse and was told by the police that I was his eventual target. They gave me an M-16 and told me I could go in. I ran through the warehouse, not knowing exactly where he was, but having a good idea. The entire warehouse was shrouded in dark blue and had a small army of police in black uniforms running through it.

I got to where he was pinned down behind some boxes. His entire area was bathed in warm yellow lights and he was near a large garage door that was open showing the outdoors. It was sunny and warm outside and I could see trees swaying outside in a breeze.

I crawled along the ground and behind some boxes until I was within sight of my co-worker and I raised my rifle. I could see him talking to himself. He was kneeling and shouting, with a crazed look in his eyes. I didn't want him to die, but I knew that unless I flushed him out now, he was going to charge the police and they would most certainly kill him. I put the scope to my eye and tracked him swaying back and forth. I wrapped my finger around the trigger, sighted the rear of his head, timed the shot, and squeezed. A shot rang out in the sudden stillness and the bullet grazed the back of his head. Success!!!

I wrapped my finger around the trigger, sighted the rear of his head, timed the shot, and squeezed. A shot rang out in the sudden stillness and the bullet grazed the back of his head. Success!!!
But it wasn't success. Instead of feeling being shot and giving up, which is what I wanted, he got more enraged, and ran out from behind the boxes. He charged towards me, and ran around the line of boxes I was behind. I tried to stand, but I stumbled and fell on my back. I raised the M-16 and pulled on the trigger as much as I could, shooting rounds into his chest, trying to save my own life. They didn't feel like normal shots though, like they were much smaller, and weren't doing as much damage. He looked confused for a moment and then fell onto his back bleeding.

I ran to his body to check on him. I didn't want him dead. I didn't want to make his wife a widow and have his baby lose his father. He was still alive, though he was having trouble breathing.

"Medic! MEDIC!!!!" I shouted out the open door towards the police. A young woman dressed in the same black tactical outfits as everyone else ran in with a medical kit. I tried to pick up my co-worker, but his body was like a rag doll. They weren't moving fast enough. Finally the medic arrived, and I dropped the gun, walking out into the sunlight. I couldn't believe what I had done, and I wanted to fall into a hole and die.
