The Underwhelming Zoo

Heather and I took the kids to the Philadelphia Zoo today. It was, on the whole, fairly underwhelming. Now, I will give them the benefit of the doubt that it is still February, and prime zoo season is still a bit away, but I wasn't near impressed. The most zoo-like thing was the large mass of people wandering around, tripping over each other and yelling at each other.

McKenna really loved the monkeys and the giraffes and the leopards. While we were looking at the leopards one growled and McKenna felt it was appropriate to growl back.

It was nice to just be outside and get the kids out in the fresh air. The sun was shining, the temperature was warm, it was all good. Heather and I will go back in May and try again when all of the exhibits are open and there's more animals running around.

You picked a lovely day to be outside. I spent the day indoors at the art and framing tade show at the Jacob Javitz Center. I had a great time buying catalogs of prints and original art work and ordering frame samples!! I had a blast!

I used to love the zoo until I got older and then I started feeling badly that the animals are caged in. It looks sad. Maybe it's just me being overly-sensitive...

It's dissapointing to hear that the Phil. Zoo was underwhelming. I have some fond childhood memories of the zoo. Two highlights: the platic keys you could buy to turn in information boxes that would inform you about all the exhibits and the polar bear display. I remember that being something uniquely spectacular at the time, being able to see those large bears swim through the retaining underground plexiglass!
