They're bringing back the draft?

Senator Fritz Hollings and a bevy of Representatives in the House have introduced bills to their respective committees asking that the draft be reinstated. (Senate Version - House Version)

You remember the draft, right? That's where you are conscripted into the military without your consent, and must serve 2 years. Except it is different this time. This time, it's both men and women that are being drafted. Any men and women between the ages of 18 and 26 can serve in the military, or perform some other public works duty which "promotes national defense including national or community service or homeland security".

I'm sorry folks, but this is a bunch of crap. Do we really need the draft? I'm talking as the son of an Army man, I enlisted in the Marine Corp (later rejected for asthma, but that's a different story), and I think this is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Why? Why? Why do we need the draft? We have a better military because it's a volunteer force of people that want to be there, that choose to be there.

Get up out of that chair and call your senators and representatives today and tell them how you feel. Don't send our sons and daughters into conscription.

I agree with Maurice whole-heartedly about the draft. As an active member of the Air National Guard, which is a reserve branch of the Air Force, I don't want anyone there who did not volunteer to join the force. In the USAF, we take pride in being the best at what we do. You talk to anyone, E-1 through O-10, and I'm betting that nearly everyone would tell you the exact same thing. If these jerks who proposed this bill HAD ever served in the military, then they would know this.

to hell with the greed sticon politicions they all can go to hell.this country is not fighting but for oil.to hell with the new babalon the the home of the unfree the usa.

War what is it good for absolutly nothing

I for one feel our volunteer force is doing an exceptional job. That's why our casualties are so minimal compared to other wars, because those volunteer men & woman choose to be there. Their hearts and minds are dedicated and motivated to be fighting. I feel that if our country does reinstate the draft that I am very uncomfortable with the fact that 18-26 year-old young woman would be forced to enlist. That should not be. As for us men, I have no arguement with that and I myself would proudly serve our country if our country called upon myself for that. I'm not the type to take a freeride so I'll do my part if it comes to that. I might not agree with what we're fighting for but I sincerely would do my part.

A typically jerkish manuever by time-wasting politicians. All this was intended to do was to remind people that it can happen. Everyone that introduced this act was fully and actively against the war in Iraq.

No one intends for the draft to come back they intend to incite fear and confusion in people.

This is why I hate politicians.
