More About Gay Marriage

So far, only one person has responded, and said that it should not be considered marriage because marriage is the Union of a man and a woman. Are you talking about the legal definition, a biblical definition, or just the societal definition?

Why can't anyone of those, or all three of those be wrong? The Bible says it's okay to own slaves, but we look down on it now. Society once said that Blacks were inferior to whites, but we don't agree with that either. And the laws once prohibited women from voting, but we don't hold that up as an ideal these days.

How can we claim that people have equal rights, and equal protection under the law, yet withhold certain privileges from them?

Are they truly equal then? We now longer have segregated schools, why a segregated family institution?

Gay marriages don't bother me. Good for them that they have found someone that they would like to spend the rest of their lives with. I also think that gay couples should get the same financial privelages as married couples. However, I don't feel that society/government is prepared to deal with that.

I don't think it's all about whether gay marriage is right or wrong but whether society wants the financial burden. Companies may decide that they no longer want to carry the full weight of paying for health insurance and decide to make their employees pay into it. Pensions may be affected by the decision. Government isn't prepared to rewrite rules and regulations for marriage/divorce.

Just as I don't feel that government should have the right to tell a woman whether or not she may have an abortion, I also don't feel it's their place to say who can and cannot get married. It should not be a government decision. It should be something that is decided by the individual/couple.
