The Torture In Iraq

So, is anyone else troubled with the torture and humiliation of the prisoners in Iraq? I mean, WHAT THE HELL WERE THOSE SOLDIERS THINKING? Why don't they just drive around Baghdad wearing signs that say "I hate ragheads?"

Honestly, I have a lot of pride in our military services, and the job that they do. I admire their strength, conviction, and determination. But these soldiers, torturing, beating, humiliating, sodomizing, and raping the prisoners is just beyond the pale.

I hold Brig. Gen Janice Karpinski most responsible (as this news story suggests others are) for not properly knowing what was going on in the prison she was in command of. If we're not going to accept that the executives in Enron didn't know, we can't let her slide. To hear her try and backpeddle this evening on the news and say that she couldn't be held responsible for the actions in her sphere of influence made me sick.

Even more disturbing to me was/is the use of private corporations acting as an unbridled arm of the US Government in Iraq. To think that people from companies like CAIC and Titan Security are in Iraq without supervision and without accountability, committing unspeakable acts against people in the name of my country makes me ill.

Nothing good can come from this.
