I picked up "Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge" by My Chemical Romance this week.
They are my new musical obsession. There's a lot of things that I like about the album. It has shades of the Misfits, Weezer, Iron Maiden, Pulp, the Smiths, and a bunch of punk bands. But it's greater than the sum of it's parts.
It's very frenetic, it's dark, angry, poppy...can something be both bright and dark at the same time? This does straddle that line. It's 5 guys from New Jersey, comic book geeks (they probably know my friend Brian). They're like the band that stepped out of the background of Mallrats. Okay, some of you might view that as damning, but I think that's a good thing.
Anyway, that's the music that currently is battling it out for supremacy with Devotchka for my undivided musical attention.
