My wife and I have been looking for a new car to replace the little green Nissan I've been driving. Please don't let my Nissan read this, by the way, she's a very good car, but she's getting raspy. It's like riding on the back of Joan Rivers "OY this ROAD. And do you see the paint job on that Hyundai? Honey, that color went out of style in the Nixon Administration".
We'd been looking at the smaller sedans, light on the price, just something simple to get me to work, with AC, a decent stereo, and not much else.
But when we stopped by the local Toyota dealership we saw they had two Priuses...Priuii? I'd always wanted to drive one and here was my chance.
The salesman got the key fob and got us in and started going through his spiel. It was an epiphany. It felt immediately right. It was the car I'd always wanted to drive. It was the car I was meant to be in. I like fast cars, I like performance, I enjoy ripping down a winding road in a finely tuned machine, but this felt...more correct.
I liked the fact that it saved gas. We were getting 50 miles to the gallon on the highway. I liked the idea that I was going to be saving money on gas while driving. I liked the idea that I would be doing less harm to the environment and keeping the Earth a little tidier for my children. I liked all of the electronics in the car, and the little features in the car. It was fun, and I was hooked.
So we're going to get a Prius. It's not something we're going to buy in the next few days, but this fall, we'll get a Prius.

Cool!
Cool... I've had one since last winter and I love it.
There is a site that gives you a good "New Prius Checklist". I highly recommend you take it to the dealer.
Three really good Prius sites are:
John's Stuff - Toyota Prius and more
Hobbit's techie-rants (Prius section with lots of links)
PriusChat Online Forum (just look for me 'Dan.')
Really think your gonna love the car.

Mmmm …
You might want to slow down and consider the unseen horse pucks there, cowboy.

Apparently, there's a goodly amount of front-end environmental devastation associated with the Prii.
Bhavjeet,
I've seen that article before. It's bogus, and filled with a lot of wrong arguments. For example:
I will agree that while I don't like the idea of them shipping the nickel around the world to make the batteries, I think the environmental benefits of the Prius still outweigh the potential issues. Not mention the fact that buying a Prius sends a signal that one more customer is looking for a change in the way cars are made.
I shrug my shoulders and say, "Yo soy de letras."
(I'm a humanities guy.)
Lemme know when next the "urge" strikes you.
HAHA! That is so true about a Dell! It's like a Ford, really nice til you actually go to use it. As I speak, I'm missing the left shift key on my Inspiron 710M. They're going to come out to fix it but it will be a few days.
OH, but I had an experience just like you with the customer service line closing RIGHT when I needed them. Apparently, someone at Dell is clued into the fact that all emergencies happen after midnight because thats when they close! The rep I talked with the other night on support chat had the biggest GONADS I have ever seen. I was having audio problems so he told me to do this and do that and restart and come back if I needed more help. Well, you know the end of this story, as soon as I needed help which was 10 minutes later, the chat room was closed for the evening! That rep knew darn good and well his solution wasn't going to fix my problem and that I would need more help. OOOhhh GRRRRRrr...
That's okay because they'll find out what I think about them next time I go to buy a new laptop!
